Basketball Preview: Indian River Warriors vs. South Jefferson Spartans
The Indian River Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the South Jefferson Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Indian River is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games.
In what's become a running theme this season, Indian River gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They really took it to Westhill for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-25 win at home. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Indian River had established a 43 point advantage.
Indian River got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ravan Marsell out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Marsell is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Davis, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Jefferson scored the most points they've had all season to find success back in January. They breezed by Carthage at home to the tune of 59-29. Given South Jefferson's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Comets are ranked 487th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Indian River pushed their record up to 15-1 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.4 points. As for South Jefferson, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Indian River strolled past the Spartans in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 66-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Indian River since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
