Baseball Preview: Conneaut Spartans vs. Hubbard Eagles

The Conneaut Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Hubbard Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Conneaut will be strutting in after a win while Hubbard will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Conneaut finally turned things around against Lakeside on Tuesday. Conneaut sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Lakeside.

Bryce Spurlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Spurlin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Meanwhile, Hubbard unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Poland Seminary.

Conneaut's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-13. As for Hubbard, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
