Basketball Recap: Newport Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Newport Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Assumption Rockets, falling 70-41. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Rockets are ranked 16th).

It was another big night for Ashlinn James, who went 6 for 7 en route to 12 points and six steals for Assumption. James is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Moore, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 15 points.

Newport Central Catholic now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Assumption, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Newport Central Catholic will host Bellevue at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Assumption, they will face off against Anderson County at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
