Basketball Recap: Winn Comes Up Short

Winn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by the Southside Cardinals 64-23. The Mavericks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-11.

Southside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but McKayla Flores led the charge by going 8 for 19 on her way to 24 points in addition to six assists and five boards. That's the most assists Flores has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabryela Galvan, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Winn's defeat dropped their record down to 4-21. As for Southside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 22-5.

Winn will head out to square off against South San Antonio at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southside, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Southwest Legacy at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Southside's favor as the team sits on 12 straight wins at home while Southwest Legacy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
