Basketball Recap: Hoehne Takes a Loss

If Hoehne was riding high fresh off their 59-25 takedown of Las Animas last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hoehne Farmers took a 49-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Simla Cubs on Monday. The Farmers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cubs from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hoehne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Braylee Foster posted 12 points. Ellegra Gutierrez was another key player, putting up nine points.

It was another big night for Kylie Maranville, who en route to 15 points and seven rebounds for Simla. Maranville has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylie Brickell, who scored six points along with eight boards and three steals.

Hoehne's defeat dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Simla, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-5.

Looking ahead, Hoehne will be taking part in a tournament against Fowler at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoehne's defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so Fowler's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Simla, they will be playing at home against Calhan at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Calhan will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Simla surely won't give up without a fight.
