Baseball Recap: Westside Wins Going Away Against Van

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but WestSide ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-12 margin over the Van Bulldogs. The win continues a trend for the Renegades in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

WestSide got a great performance from Isaiah Clay as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braxton Waldron, who got on base in six of his seven plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for WestSide: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-10 otherwise. James Paynter also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

WestSide always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

WestSide's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Van, they dropped their record down to 1-19 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Looking ahead, WestSide will head out to square off against Wyoming East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Renegades' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Van, they will square off against Mount View at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
