Baseball Recap: Salem Sundevils vs. Landstown Eagles
Salem extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They lost 22-0 to the Landstown Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-2 back in March.
As for Landstown, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. Considering they have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Landstown's part, George Chevalier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Chevalier has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jordan Hunt and Colin Kim did most of the damage at the plate: Hunt went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Kim went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave Hunt a new career-high. Garrett Clark also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Salem will take on rival Bayside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Landstown is set to challenge their familiar foe Princess Anne at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.6, the Cavaliers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
