Softball Game Preview: Robinson Rams vs. Hayfield Hawks

The Robinson Rams will venture away from home to square off against the Hayfield Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Robinson was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Annandale on Tuesday. The Rams' pitchers stepped up to hand the Atoms a 10-0 shutout.

Grace Gilbert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marina Palazzo, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Hayfield came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 21-8 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Hawks have posted against the Eagles since March 30, 2023.

Hayfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Robinson, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.

Robinson beat Hayfield 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
