Basketball Recap: Jenkins Skates Past Groves with Ease

Jenkins had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 56.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Groves Rebels 59-25. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Rebels are ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jenkins to victory, but perhaps none more so than Iycess Scott, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Scott continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Aniyah Browner was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to eight steals and six rebounds.

Jenkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Jenkins' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.4 points over those games. As for Groves, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Looking ahead, Jenkins will take on Liberty County at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Jenkins knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Liberty County likes a good challenge. Groves does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
