Basketball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Lowndes

Lowndes won the last time they faced Colquitt County and things went their way on Friday too. The Lowndes Vikings snuck past the Colquitt County Packers with a 54-49 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Lowndes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Jackson led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aryana Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards.

Lowndes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 19 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Colquitt County still got an impressive performance from Amira Walters- Smith, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 20 points and seven assists. That was a full 40.8% of Colquitt County's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Amareyia Knighton was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Lowndes' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.8 points. As for Colquitt County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season.

Lowndes has already played their next game, a 57-55 defeat against Tift County on the 1st. As for Colquitt County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-44 loss against Camden County on the 1st.
