Leesburg is 8-2 against First Academy since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Yellow Jackets will challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Leesburg knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully First Academy likes a good challenge.
While Leesburg's victory against Real Life Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellow Jackets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 win over the Raptors on Friday. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Raptors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Leesburg got a massive performance out of Hailey Toothaker, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylie Davis, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leesburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 13.8.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. First Academy came up short against Trinity Christian Academy, falling 21-1. First Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
First Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Myers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Leesburg now has a winning record of 9-8. As for First Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Leesburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like First Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leesburg got the 'W' in their previous matchup on Thursday against First Academy by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
