Baseball Game Preview: Fenwick Friars vs. Leyden Eagles

The Fenwick Friars will challenge the Leyden Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Fenwick will be strutting in after a win while Leyden will be coming in after a defeat.

Fenwick's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Loyola Academy.

Fenwick got a great performance from Matt Purta as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Purta also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Friars are 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-14-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Lazewski, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Josh Morgan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Leyden suffered their biggest loss since May 3rd on Friday. They came up short against Niles North, falling 10-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leyden saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey O'Neill, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Fenwick's win bumped their record up to 17-15-1. As for Leyden, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-15.
