Softball Preview: Citizens Christian Academy Patriots vs. Fullington Academy Trojans
The Citizens Christian Academy Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Fullington Academy Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Patriots fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They were the clear victor by a 17-7 margin over Echols County last Thursday.
Peighton Harper made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Harper was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Emma Gourley and Cadence Cravey did most of the damage at the plate: Gourley went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a triple, while Cravey scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-6. Brilynn Waldron was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Citizens Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The last time their batting average was this high was back in August of 2023.
Meanwhile, Fullington Academy took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday (and then some). They put the hurt on Tiftarea Academy with a sharp 17-5 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Fullington Academy got a massive performance out of Evelyn Fletcher, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Rose Nipper, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and a run.
Citizens Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Fullington Academy in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for Citizens Christian Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
