Baseball Recap: Havelock Comes Up Short

Havelock had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 11-7 to make it five. They came up short against the West Carteret Patriots, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for West Carteret, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

For West Carteret's part, not much got past Landon Quillen, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Havelock off the board. Quillen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Austin Motley and Lincoln Strump did most of the damage at the plate: Motley went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Strump went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Motley has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Austin Robinson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Havelock has already played their next game, a 4-1 defeat against Dixon on the 23rd. As for West Carteret, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-5 loss against New Hanover on the 22nd.
