Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nayeli Roodriguez and Maelat Kidane Lead West Orange to Victory

West Orange won the last time they faced East Orange Campus and things went their way on Monday too. The Mountaineers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jaguars, sneaking past 2-1.

West Orange had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-19, 25-15.

West Orange was led to victory by Maelat Kidane and Nayeli Roodriguez. Kidane had five digs and two aces, while Roodriguez had six digs and three aces. What's more, Roodriguez also posted a -66.7% hitting percentage, which is the highest she's achieved over her last two matchups. Adonya Kidane also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

They weren't the only good server: West Orange was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They are a perfect 3-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

West Orange's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for East Orange Campus, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, West Orange will be playing in front of their home fans against Belleville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Orange Campus, they will venture away from home to face off against Glen Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
