After both having extra time off, the Des Moines Demons and the Maxwell Bears will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Des Moines is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Roy/Mosquero just ended the team's ten-match winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Blue/Lady Blue by a score of 3-2. While the Demons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Blue/Lady Blue 25-16 in the first set.
Des Moines actually scored more points across those five sets (107-105), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 16-25, 29-27, 26-24, 19-25, 15-6.
Meanwhile, Maxwell came up short against Cimarron on Tuesday and fell 3-1. While the Bears didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rams 25-20 in the first set.
Maxwell started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-12.
Maxwell's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Des Moines, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-5.
Des Moines took their win against Maxwell in their previous meeting on October 9th by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Demons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
