Baseball Recap: Griffith Takes a Loss

Griffith fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Boone Grove on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-6 to the Wolves. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost five in a row.

Jonathan Nevarez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Griffith's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

Griffith's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Boone Grove, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Griffith will square off against Illiana Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Boone Grove, they will venture away from home to face off against Morgan Township at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves will need to watch out since the Cherokees have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
