Baseball Recap: Grainger Comes Up Short

Grainger fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cherokee on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 12-11. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Chiefs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Kade Lucas put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Nolan Wallace was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Connor May, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Even though they lost, Grainger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Grainger's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Cherokee, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season.

Grainger will take on Eagleton College & Career Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cherokee, they will welcome Sullivan East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
