Preview: South Bend Riley Wildcats vs. Wawasee Warriors
South Bend Riley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Wawasee Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wawasee took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on South Bend Riley, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, South Bend Riley beat Jimtown 24-12.
South Bend Riley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominick Jolley led the charge by rushing for 183 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Jolley's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Austin White also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Wawasee's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. The match between Wawasee and Mishawaka wasn't particularly close, with Wawasee falling 41-22. While losing is never fun, Wawasee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Mishawaka is ranked 30th).
South Bend Riley's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Jimtown, Bremen, and South Bend Washington. Wawasee has traveled a rocky road this season, as they've lost eight of their first nine games, which leaves them at a 1-8 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' match: South Bend Riley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Wawasee, though, as they've been averaging only 96.7 per game. How will Wawasee fare against such a dominant running game?
