Baseball Recap: Klein Drops Season-High Score on Spring

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Klein). They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Spring Lions on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Bearkats in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.

Ty Stansifer looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Klein let Emmanuel James and Ashton Hughes run wild. James got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Hughes went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave James a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Stratta, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Klein always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Klein's win bumped their record up to 10-16-2. As for Spring, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-15 record this season.

Klein and Spring could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bearkats (ranked 575th) will meet Magnolia (ranked 264th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Spring will challenge Aldine at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (838 vs. 309).
