Basketball Recap: Newberry Comes Up Short

Newberry lost against Dutch Fork on December 2nd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Newberry Bulldogs received a blow as they fell 66-48 to the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while the Silver Foxes are ranked 38th).

Dutch Fork's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryson Taylor, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justus Bell, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Newberry dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Dutch Fork, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newberry and Clinton will compete for holiday cheer at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Dutch Fork and Riverside will round out the year against one another at at 6:35 p.m. on Friday. Dutch Fork has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
