Basketball Recap: Carly Wilt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern over Berlin Brothersvalley

If Southern was riding high fresh off their 64-25 takedown of Fort Hill last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Southern Rams took a 59-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Rams came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Maryland, while the Mountaineers are ranked 46th in Pennsylvania).

Southern's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carly Wilt, who went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points. The game was Wilt's third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbi Berry, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Southern's loss dropped their record down to 15-2. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Southern has already played their next contest, a 60-38 victory against Fort Hill on the 7th. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, they will square off against Meyersdale at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
