Softball Game Preview: Franklin Central Flashes vs. Avon Orioles

The Franklin Central Flashes will head out on the road to challenge the Avon Orioles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Franklin Central saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on Jennings County with a sharp 14-4 win. That looming 14-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Flashes yet this season.

Franklin Central got a massive performance out of Sarah Miller, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Miller hit this season. August Coons was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Franklin Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jennings County only posted an OBP of .385.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon). Everything went their way against Eastern Hancock on Saturday as they made off with a 24-5 victory. With that win, the Orioles brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.

Zoey Chavez was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Pickering, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Avon's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Franklin Central, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
