Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne Comes Up Short

Southern Wayne lost against South Johnston back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Southern Wayne Saints took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Johnston Trojans. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Southern Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kairell Evans went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points and five rebounds. Evans is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dorien Toussian, who posted six points and six boards.

Cole Norris was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds for South Johnston. That makes it four consecutive games in which Norris has scored at least a third of South Johnston's points. Michael Johnson was another key player, putting up six points.

Southern Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for South Johnston, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Southern Wayne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 83-63 defeat against East Wake on the 5th. As for South Johnston, they have also already played their next matchup, a 60-43 win against Smithfield-Selma on the 6th.
