Basketball Recap: Jonathan Lagos Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. Joseph-By-The-Sea

Salesian hadn't done well against St. Joseph-by-the-Sea recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Salesian Eagles snuck past the St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings with a 67-63 win. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Vikings two weeks ago, they had to take a 49-48 defeat.

Salesian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonathan Lagos out in front who went 7 for 13 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. Kevaughn Mitchell was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Salesian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Salesian now has a winning record of 5-4. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.

Salesian and Monsignor Farrell will compete for holiday cheer at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Salesian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea and Pennington will round out the year against one another at at 5:45 p.m. on December 29th.
