Kennedy and Derby are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Red Raiders at 3:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Kennedy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Waterbury Career Academy on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Spartans. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won nine in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Derby, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Harding on Friday as they made off with an 18-2 victory. That looming 18-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Raiders yet this season.
Isaac McNeill made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). McNeill was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Derby let Brooklyn Fernandez and Jon Ghiggia run wild. Fernandez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Ghiggia got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Fernandez has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Nikolas Kotucek, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Derby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Kennedy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Derby, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Kennedy got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Derby by a conclusive 10-4 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
