Unioto extends home winning streak to seven

Recap: Unioto Shermans vs. Westerville South Wildcats

The Unioto Shermans waltzed into their contest on Saturday with 11 straight wins but they left with 12. They enjoyed a cozy 71-54 win over Westerville South. Given Unioto's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Westerville South is ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Unioto to victory were Milee Smith and Mya Hamilton. Smith scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Hamilton shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hamilton pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Amelia Uhrig, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Westerville South's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ariyana Cradle, who scored 15 points. Cirrye White was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Unioto pushed their record up to 13-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points per game. As for Westerville South, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.

Unioto will head out on the road to face off against Olentangy at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Olentangy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Westerville South, they will be playing at home against Dublin Scioto at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
