Softball Recap: Benet Academy Wins Going Away Against Naperville North

After low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Benet Academy brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on the Naperville North Huskies with a sharp 15-5 victory on Friday. The Redwings not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 18, 2024.

Gianna Cunningham was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with five RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Hannah Baer was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sophia Rosner was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Benet Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Naperville North, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Benet Academy will challenge Joliet Catholic at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hilltoppers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Redwings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Naperville North, they will welcome Plainfield South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
