Softball Recap: Lakeside Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canyon Springs, Lakeside was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Heritage Patriots by a score of 9-4. The Lancers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

Michaela Alvarado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Janelle Benitez and Terra Kelly did most of the damage at the plate: Benitez went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Kelly went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Benitez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Reese Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lakeside's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Heritage, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Lakeside will be playing in front of their home fans against Perris at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.57 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Heritage, they will take on Vista del Lago at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Ravens have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.87 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
