Softball Recap: Wyoming East Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Wyoming East, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against the Midland Trail Patriots by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Carli Raye made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydee Shrewsbury, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kendra Cook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Wyoming East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Wyoming East's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Midland Trail, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wyoming East will host Woodrow Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Midland Trail, they will face off against Richwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots are facing the Lumberjacks at the right time seeing as the Lumberjacks are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
