Volleyball Recap: Cristo Rey St. Viator Starts Season with Loss at Home

Cristo Rey St. Viator unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights on Wednesday. The Royals have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

The final score came out to 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Malcolm Lawrence out in front who had ten aces, five digs, and two blocks. What's more, Lawrence posted two kills, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximiliano Ortega, who had 20 digs and three aces.

Looking ahead, Cristo Rey St. Viator will square off against Somerset Academy Losee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Pinecrest Academy Cadence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
