Basketball Recap: South San Antonio Sets Scoring Season-High Against Macarthur

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South San Antonio). They blew past the MacArthur Brahmas 82-39 on Tuesday. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Brahmas are ranked 1085th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South San Antonio was led to victory by Ethan Moreno and Kaleb Vargas. Moreno dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Vargas went 9 of 12 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. Moreno's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Settles, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: South San Antonio was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

MacArthur lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jordan Pelt, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Long, who put up ten points.

The win (which was South San Antonio's third in a row) raised their record to 12-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35 points. As for MacArthur, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

South San Antonio didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-42 victory against Harlandale on the 3rd. As for MacArthur, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-42 loss against Marshall on the 3rd.
