Basketball Game Preview: Rio Rico Hawks vs. Tanque Verde Hawks

The Rio Rico Hawks will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Tanque Verde Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tanque Verde took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Rio Rico, who comes in off a win.

Rio Rico is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by ALA - Queen Creek to the tune of 69-27 last Tuesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Hawks with their most commanding win of the season.

Angelina Whelan had a dynamite game for Rio Rico, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was Whelan's fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Tanque Verde suffered their closest loss since December 29, 2023 on Tuesday. They fell just short of San Tan Foothills by a score of 47-44.

Tanque Verde now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Rio Rico, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Everything came up roses for Rio Rico against Tanque Verde in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 55-28 win. Will Rio Rico repeat their success, or does Tanque Verde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
