Baseball Game Preview: Columbiana Clippers vs. Beaver Local Beavers

The Columbiana Clippers will head out to take on the Beaver Local Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbiana will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Columbiana lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Heartland Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Clippers were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Lions on Wednesday. Considering the Clippers have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Reese Roush was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Avery Young was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Columbiana's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was William Bucci, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Beaver Local lost 10-1 to Bellaire on Wednesday.

Beaver Local saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paxton Grimes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Columbiana now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Beaver Local, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Everything went Columbiana's way against Beaver Local in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Columbiana made off with an 11-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Clippers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
