Basketball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Lutheran

Lutheran entered their tilt with Pueblo County on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They walked away with a 76-64 victory over the Pueblo County Hornets. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Hornets are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lutheran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kade Speckman, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Speckman's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Owen Oldenburg was another key player, going 7 for 13 en route to 19 points.

Pueblo County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lowry Kirkland, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Cole Barger, who went 6 for 13 en route to 18 points.

Lutheran pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Pueblo County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Lutheran didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-62 victory against Cheyenne Mountain on the 16th. Pueblo County has also already played their next game, a 77-58 defeat against Falcon on the 17th.
