Baseball Recap: Daviess County Wins Going Away Against Talawanda

After only one run in their last matchup, Daviess County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Talawanda on Sunday. Daviess County blew past Talawanda 10-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.

Weston Lawrence tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Mewes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Howard, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Daviess County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Daviess County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Talawanda and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Daviess County Panthers take on Hopkinsville Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Talawanda, they will challenge Meade County at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
