Basketball Recap: Stratton Beats Akron for Their Third Straight Win

Stratton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Akron Rams as they made off with a 66-45 win. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 49-42 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2025.

Stratton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ricky Schillig, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Judson Isenbart, who posted nine points along with eight boards and seven assists.

Stratton was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Akron saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kolten Randel shot 47% from the field en route to 21 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Randel now owns an excellent 40.5% three-point shooting accuracy. Kolton Strand also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Stratton's record now sits at 4-2. As for Akron, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Stratton will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cheyenne Wells at 6:00 p.m. As for Akron, they will venture away from home to square off against Burlington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
