Softball Recap: Red Mountain Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

While Red Mountain's win against Mountain View wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mountain Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Toros on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Mountain Lions in their matchups with the Toros: they've now won five in a row.

Kendall Cochran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Red Mountain let Payton Westra and Nina Montenegro run wild. Westra went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Montenegro went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Westra is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Red Mountain lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March.

Red Mountain pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.1 runs. As for Mountain View, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-7.

Looking ahead, Red Mountain will head out to square off against Queen Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Mountain Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mountain View, they will host Desert Vista at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
