Softball Game Preview: North Valleys Panthers vs. Fernley Vaqueros

North Valleys has won seven straight games at home, while Fernley has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Vaqueros at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Saturday, North Valleys got the win against Sparks by a conclusive 17-2. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly 15 runs.

The team relied heavily on Aunnika Morrison, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Jordan Gainey was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

North Valleys was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .500 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Fernley and Spring Creek meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Vaqueros put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 15-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.

North Valleys has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Fernley, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
