Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Tigers vs. Arvada West Wildcats

The Lakewood Tigers will challenge the Arvada West Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Lakewood's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ralston Valley on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Arvada West had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They never let the Bears get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Arvada West let Cooper Vais and Jeramiah Gonzales run wild. Vais went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Gonzales went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Gonzales a new career-high. Levi Lueck was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Arvada West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear Creek only posted a batting average of .176.

Arvada West's win bumped their record up to 11-2-1. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
