Darlington had lost four straight at home, but  on Friday they dropped down to 3-5 to make it five. They came up short against  the Hartsville Red Foxes, falling  45-24. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Red Foxes are ranked 35th).
 When it comes to explaining why Darlington lost, don't look at  Jaylen Augustus. Despite the final result, he rushed for 78 yards and one  touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 100 yards and a pair of  TDs.
As for Hartsville, they have  been performing  well recently as they've  won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record  this season. The  wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 42.0 points over those games.
  Kylif Miller had a dynamite game, rushing for 177 yards and a pair of  scores while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Those  177  rushing yards gave  him a new career-high.  Trace Hillian was another key player, rushing for 124 yards on only 14 carries.
 Darlington didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  contest,  a  56-28  loss against Crestwood on the 24th. As for Hartsville, they have also already played their next matchup,  a  51-0  victory against Lakewood on the 24th.
