Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Chisum Mustangs
Commerce has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Chisum Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Chisum took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Commerce, who comes in off a win.
Commerce stacked a 16th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They breezed by Lone Oak at home to the tune of 66-20. Given Commerce's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while Lone Oak is ranked 830th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chisum suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 65-34 loss at the hands of Rains. Chisum has not had much luck with Rains recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Chisum had strong showings from Emma Garner, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five blocks, and Ashlyn Hutchison, who scored six points along with five rebounds and five steals. Garner is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 22 games she's played.
Commerce's victory bumped their record up to 24-7. As for Chisum, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Commerce against Chisum in their previous meeting on January 2nd as the squad secured a 76-47 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Garner, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and seven blocks.
