Baseball Recap: Payson Victorious

Payson's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the St. Johns Redskins by a score of 6-1.

Nathan Tsosie looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Payson's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Fuller, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hansen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Payson's record now sits at 10-8. As for St. Johns, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

Payson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-5 defeat against Safford on the 12th. As for St. Johns, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-5 draw against Florence on the 12th.
