Baseball Recap: Isaac Arnerich Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat River Valley

While Nevada Union didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They beat the River Valley Falcons on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-3. The victory continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won eight in a row.

Ty Malak made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Brock McBride looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Isaac Arnerich was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Brogen Lyden, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Nevada Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Valley only posted an OBP of .333.

Nevada Union's record now sits at 6-2-1. As for River Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Nevada Union will have a chance to go back-to-back against River Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
