Baseball Recap: Federal Hocking Comes Up Short

Federal Hocking extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 38 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They came up short against the Frontier Cougars, falling 23-1. If the Lancers were looking for revenge after losing 13-8 to the Cougars when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Frontier, their record is now 5-7. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Frontier's part, Zeke Rinard was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Rinard also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Frontier is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Rinard was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luke Mendenhall was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. True King was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Federal Hocking will face off against Trimble at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Frontier, they will challenge Belpre at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
