Baseball Game Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines vs. Sharyland Rattlers

For the second straight game, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will face off against Sharyland. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Rattlers at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's offense. They came up short against Sharyland on Tuesday, falling 10-0. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Sharyland's part, Fabrizio Salinas made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Salinas has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Edgar Quintanilla and Luis Balderas did most of the damage at the plate: Quintanilla scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Balderas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Quintanilla has posted since back in March. Nic Valdez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The win (which was Sharyland's third in a row) raised their record to 18-5-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.
