Soccer Game Preview: West Brunswick vs. Newton-Conover

The West Brunswick Trojans will challenge the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

West Brunswick came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-0 to Laney. While losing is never fun, West Brunswick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Laney are ranked 37th).

Meanwhile, Newton-Conover waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Their defense stepped up to hand the Warriors a 9-0 shutout. Newton-Conover's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last nine matches.

They hit West Caldwell with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Stella Phillips (5), Naia Lawing (2), Ingrid Garcia, and Allison Salgado.

Newton-Conover's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five games. As for West Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8-1.
