Football Game Preview: Calumet Christian Patriots vs. Hammond Morton Governors

The Calumet Christian Patriots will square off against the Hammond Morton Governors at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Calumet Christian lost 34-14 to Hammond Bishop Noll on Friday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Calumet Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Clayton, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Clayton was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 50 yards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hammond Morton). They blew past Phalen Leadership Academy 62-0 on Saturday. Given the Governors' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Falcon are ranked 316th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hammond Morton's win came from a few key players Calumet Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Anton Mathis, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Ameer Daniels made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Hammond Morton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.0 points on average over those games. As for Calumet Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
