Soccer Game Preview: Dreher vs. Columbia

The Dreher Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Columbia Capitals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Dreher's last nine contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Dreher's victory against Irmo wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils won by a goal and slipped past the Yellow Jackets 1-0. Dreher's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four games.

Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Columbia after they claimed the first goal on Monday, however, they wouldn't score again. They lost 4-1 to Dutch Fork. While losing is never fun, Columbia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Dutch Fork are ranked 16th).

Dreher pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five matchups. As for Columbia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-3.
