Recap: Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets vs. Rocky Mount Gryphons
The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Rocky Mount at home and fell 64-11. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Roanoke Rapids has scored all season.
Roanoke Rapids lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alexis Bednarczyk, who scored five points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaniah Daniels, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and five blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Roanoke Rapids struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rocky Mount racked up 16 assists.
Rocky Mount got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keysha Mizzell out in front who scored 23 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mizzell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was McKinley Battle, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Roanoke Rapids has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Rocky Mount, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roanoke Rapids will take on Franklinton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklinton will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak. As for Rocky Mount, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bunn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bunn has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
